I was looking through some pictures of  the visit Emma and I did to Paris a year or so ago. We went by Eurostar to the Gare Du Nord and stayed in a small hotel on the Rue Lepic in Montmartre. We were so entranced by the place that we spent the whole long weekend just exploring the area.
A paradise of artist's studios and cafes, Le Lapin Agile where Picasso paid for his drinks with paintings! Renoir's house and the bar were the Impressionists played billiards. It was amazing how much there was in one small area of Paris . One evening we sat in a Belle Epoch  bar where a beautiful red haired singer sang "Chanson" and I found myself in tears! I phoned my husband  and said ,"Listen,I'm really in Paris"
There is one very special place, a museum hidden away called The Mussee of La Vie Romantique and it is a little gem. It houses many  pictures and memorabilia of George Sand ,Chopin and other Romantics. There is a civilized tea room and pretty garden so we had tea and people watched. It was a lovely experience,I was right back there with George  Sand!

Tessa Hainsworth came to the library to talk about her two best selling books. She was vivacious and amusing  and a real delight! Her stories are about her life in Cornwall as a "Postie" in the Roseland area. She was a Body Shop executive and she and her family downsized for a more fulfilling life. Her adventures are amusing and touching and good reads.I used to be on the mobile library in the same area and could identify with many of her experiences. The Roseland  is a very special place full of beauty and mystery. I too saw it in all weathers and seasons. I particularly remember coming across the King harry Ferry in the Autumn dusk and seeing the smoke  from  the chimney of a house on the far bank. Mist was rising from the river, it felt magic and a full moon was rising. Those times on the van were an experience I cherish and still miss.

This is a lovely mystical view of an Irish village under a horned moon.It is very tranquil! I recall Yeats!!I also think of Allingham's Poem about the changeling.  Being between worlds is believable at this time of the year.In Cornwall we have the story of the Mermaid of Zennor who came from the sea to marry a local lad and then felt the call of the waves and could not remain. Autumn brings these images and feelings to mind. I have been lighting the woodstove for an hour or two each evening even though the days still have that balmy warmth .I love the drawing in and the urge to preserve summer memories like squirrels hiding their winter store and to tell stories of those who have left for other realms..

I love this look. The designer is from Scandinavia and she is called Ewa I Walla.
She designs amazing and unusual clothes and uses interesting combinations of fabric. I think I would draw the line at the boots tho!Thinking about winter clothes now!

Autumn is really coming now,we visited Glastonbury last Sunday and the countryside around the Tor was bathed in a warm ,misty autumnal glow.It is such a mystical and magical area aside from the more new age capitalist side of things there is so much history and myth to  explore.
We had a tour of the Abbey ruins with a really lovely and knowledgable guide who talked us round the impressive site. The Abbots kitchen was full of the aroma of herbs . Ancient cookery equipment was displayed around the room along with recipes and notes on herbal remedies. In the grounds is a Hawthorn tree which is supposed to be a cutting from the very thorn planted by Joseph  the uncle of Jesus? It was crowded with rich red berries.  Somerset is such a mysterious county  ,I love to visit at least once a year and at this time when the sun is warm and gentle and the cool evenings  are golden.

Sometimes life seems to get so busy there is no time to daydream. If I don't get a bit of quiet time I start to feel ill and jaded. I feel a bit that way now and have had no time to blog anything inspiring however I must say that I love the Autumn it seems to calm everything down and be mellow. My Mother who is a pretty and energetic 87 yearold is staying with me and that is lovely but there are not enough hours in the day at present! Here is a photo of our friend Hugh's beautiful flower arrangement created for a jolly get together of literary minded souls at his lovely home.
