I have actually finished!

I have at last finished my William Morris wall hanging.I have collected bits of Morris fabric for many years , just offcuts of curtaining or upholstery material and now they are going to hang on my landing wall.

The scraps have come from foraging in the remnant baskets of numerous  fabric shops and  some are left over pieces from my own curtains. I have had some of them for years and they remind me of different times of my life.I fell in love with William as a teenager full of revolutionary spirit and romantic asperations!

The  designs  and colours have been a lifetime love and today when everything seems so "throw away" my admiration for Morris has grown even stronger. His philosophy is apposite and his work is timeless,it never palls, what a hero !

Pity  Mrs Morris seemed to prefer Rossetti!!

  1. OOh how lovely. I have several Morris fabrics here at Hillside, willow, lily etc plus some big patterns which I have not identified. Like you, I collected them as remnants (when I volunteered at Scrapstore).
Your wall hanging is going to be a real centre piece for your wall.

  4. Lovely wall hanging Angela! Morris designs are timeless and we never tire of them. Jane Morris tired of Rossetti though, didn't she! In the end she stayed with Morris for the rest of his life and mourned him after he died. So... maybe you can make a start on a quilt now?!

  9. Thanks everyone,Zuzana it is not big enough for a quilt so it will hang on the wall.
Jane you are right she did but I have just read a very good Biog of Morris which is very good on their relationship. It is by Fiona McCarthy and I enjoyed it . Ricardo you can help me hang it up if you like !

  10. It's beautiful - I especially like the fact that the different bits of fabric remind you of different times in your life - I think you have created a family heirloom.
